What about the French school system?

French secondary education is divided into two schools:

  • the “collège” for the first four years directly following primary school (Grades 6-9)
  • the “lycée” for the next three years.

Completion of secondary studies leads to the “baccalauréat”. The school’s director makes the decision regarding grade and placement level for international students, taking into account the school’s organization, the student’s transcripts and their French level. All students attend general classes such as French, History, Foreign Language (usually English, then German or Spanish), Sports, etc..

Private boarding schools in France only offer 5-day boarding option. Exchange students are hosted in host families for weekends and holidays. If you are looking for a permanent boarding school in France, consult us!

    Testimonials

Paris has always been a dream for me. From the moment I saw a French film in French class, I knew I wanted to study and live in France. I am aware that if I want to study at a French university it is necessary to have an almost native level so I motivated myself to be an exchange student in Paris. Being in France makes it much easier to learn about French culture and the French school system. This trip changed me for the better. It made me believe and be more independent. I will always remember very fondly this stage of my life, my friends and the Rolland family.

The boarding school in Paris is in good condition and the teachers are very attentive. For my first exchange, I did well. When you are motivated, anything is possible! Walking around Paris almost every weekend has been a real dream!! There are monuments worth visiting such as the Louvre, Orsay..well.. all museums , the famous Eiffel tower (it's huge), the Champs elysées. My favorite place is and will always be: Montmartre!

It was a fantastic experience, admittedly short (due to COVID 19 pandemic), but Catherine has fond memories of La Salle Saint Nicolas.
