Your International Exchange Program in Italy with Nacel : International School in Genoa

Discover the subjects you may study at the International School in Italy

Grade 10:  this is the last year of the IBO’s Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Subjects studied:

  • English,
  • Mathematics (Standard or Extended syllabus),
  • Experimental Sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry),
  • Humanities (History),
  • Arts (choice of Music or Visual Arts), Design Technology,
  • Italian as a second language OR a choice of another language (French, Spanish, German, Mandarin Chinese).

The students will have to complete a personal project during the course of the first semester. This project starts in the second half of year 9, so the rest of the class might be a bit ahead with their work. Individual arrangements for some subjects might be necessary, according to the requirements of the school.

Grade 11 : the first year of the IBO’s Diploma Programme (International Baccalaureate)

You have a choice of 6 subjects, plus a course of “Theory of Knowledge”, hours of service (CAS) and (if needed) the students might start to work on an essay on a subject of their choice.

  • Subject #1 : English Language and Literature, or English as a second Language
  • Subject #2: Italian as second Language
  • Subject #3: History, or Business, or Psychology
  • Subject #4: Physics or Biology or Design Technology, or Chemistry, or Environmental Systems & Societies
  • Subject #5: Mathematics (Analysis or Applications)
  • Subjects #6: French, German, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, or another choice from group #3 or group #4

The syllabus of each subject is decided by the school and might not coincide with the one chosen by other IBO schools in the world, so if the students come from an IBO school it is necessary to check what part of the syllabus has been covered before returning to the original school in year 12.

NOTE: subject choices might vary according to availability of teachers and enrollment. Not all subjects offered by the school might be available to exchange students if the class is already full.

While no prior Italian knowledge is required, you will also attend an Italian course during your school year in Italy. This public school is an international school in Italy: you will meet students from all over the world!

Italian Host Family Immersion
