The sunshine city, Montpellier, is the 8th largest city of the country and is also the fastest growing city in France over the past 25 years. Located on the south coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, it is the third-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille and Nice. Furthermore, the city offers a beautiful historic centre with narrow picturesque streets; many tree shaded cafés, and also an interesting cultural life (for instance the summer festival of opera and other music: classical or jazz music). Discover some famous location such as “La Grande Motte” which is a popular seaside resort and port, visit the Roman amphitheatre Arena of Nîmes and the main focus point of the city “Place de la Comédie” which is a great meeting place by day or night. You can also visit “la Grotte de Trabuc” which is around 1 hour from Montpellier and known since antiquity. Today 70,000 tourists visit this unavoidable Cévennes heritage. I loved this experience I was able to make many friends, get to know many places and different cultures. The lady I had only spoke French that helped me to improve faster. The first week was difficult to communicate but after a week in I.L.A. I was able to talk to her better. The first month I was alone, but the second month I had a roommate with her and I was able to practice French even more. The cultural differences are that almost everyone smokes, you walk around the squares you use a lot of bicycles or trains, you hardly use cars, at night everything lights up and in the south of France you greet each other with three kisses, everyone I met was very nice. Learning French in Montpellier was very convenient because you can visit incredible cities, you can also go to Spain. I improved a lot learning the language in France and now I can speak with more confidence. I liked that my friends taught me some words in their languages. Montpellier is a city of students, that makes it easy to make friends and practice the language.
