This short-term exchange program in Canada is specifically designed for international students who would like to spend a few weeks in Canada to experience High School Abroad without missing a semester in their home country!

You will be welcomed by a Canadian host family who will open their home to you and provide you with all necessary support during your study abroad program. You will be enrolled in a private school in Winnipeg where you will be integrated into all regular Canadian classes.

I completed a short homestay program in Canada, during early January and February 2026. Liby from NACEL helped me make all the arrangements from the beginning.

My host family was super nice. As a food lover, I was so lucky that they have a Filipino background, so I got to try lots of food from different countries! They also took me out to see nearby towns and do winter outdoor activities. Our relationship took a while to build, but by the end of the program, I really felt like part of the family. They invited me to come back and said I have a home in Canada!

In school, I was also very lucky, because I was able to take different courses. The teachers were very welcoming and helpful. They allowed me to switch classes, so I tried different courses, got to learn different content, and made lots of friends from diverse backgrounds and interests. One of my best friends is from the Turks and Caicos. With them, I visited the Mall, went to the Arcades, and enjoyed many winter activities. I even went snowboarding.

This program allowed me to grow significantly. Although it was a short time, I feel I have grown as a person. I was able to choose my classes and navigate the public transportation system in Canada. I feel more mature, independent, and capable of making my own decisions. Even adapting to cold was an adventure!! I have never felt colder in my life!

For students interested in a homestay program in Canada, I feel like it is worthwhile. Canada is much closer to me now, and I got to experience it with my host family and the many friends I made. I would definitely consider coming back and even attending the university there. If you have the chance, don't hesitate, just take it. You will not be sorry!

For this short term High School Abroad in Canada, you:

must be between 14 and 17 years of age.
must have a minimum of 2 years of studies in English to be accepted in the program.
must be secondary school students in their home country.
must not have completed more than eleven years of primary and secondary studies.

In both programs, students are assigned to a host family and attend a local high school. The main difference is the duration of the program and whether the student returns with class certifications. The Nacel Homestay programs are usually shorter (up to 12 weeks) and do not provide class certifications. It is a pure cultural immersion program.
