Spend three weeks learning Japanese and experiencing everyday life in Fukuoka. Designed for students aged 14 to 17, this fixed-date summer program combines small-group Japanese classes, cultural activities, a local high school visit, accommodation with breakfast and dinner, and trips around Kyushu, Osaka, and Kyoto.
What is the Fukuoka Japanese summer camp?
Fukuoka summer camp is a three-week Japanese language and cultural program for students aged 14 to 17. You attend 32 interactive Japanese classes, live with a Japanese host family or in a supervised residence, and take part in cultural activities, high school visits, and organized trips.
The program is exclusively designed for teenagers and has a maximum capacity of 60 students. Japanese classes have no more than 8 students, allowing you to participate actively and receive individual attention.
The 2027 program runs on fixed dates only. Classes and activities take place from July 5 to July 23, 2027, with accommodation provided from Sunday, July 4 to Sunday, July 25, 2027.
What will I learn in my Japanese classes?
You will attend 32 Japanese language classes during the three-week program. The classes are interactive and focus on using Japanese in practical situations.
The course is intended for students at A0 or A1 level, from complete beginners to students with basic knowledge. Classes have a maximum of eight students.
Although beginners are welcome, you must be able to read hiragana before the course begins. Hiragana is one of the basic Japanese writing systems and will be used during your lessons.
Why study Japanese in Fukuoka?
Fukuoka is the largest city on Kyushu, Japan’s southern main island. It offers a combination of modern city life, local neighborhoods, beaches, shrines, shopping areas, and convenient public transportation.
The city provides a different experience from Japan’s largest tourist centers. You can practice Japanese in daily situations while discovering Fukuoka and using the city as a base for trips around Kyushu and to Osaka and Kyoto.
The language school is centrally located and accessible by public transportation.
How are students supervised?
Classes, organized activities, and program trips are supervised by school staff. Students also have access to a 24/7 emergency contact throughout the program.
Students follow the program’s rules and curfew. They may travel between their accommodation and the school independently by public transportation, so participants should be comfortable following directions, managing their time, and asking for assistance when necessary.
Students must also have a working mobile phone connection in Japan so that they can contact the school, their accommodation, or the emergency team. Students are encouraged to use the Suica app on a compatible smartphone and should budget for their daily transportation.

What activities are included?
The activity program introduces you to both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. Activities are scheduled around the Japanese classes and may include:
Spo-cha sports and amusement center
Fukuoka Tower
Taiko drumming experience
Visit to a local Japanese high school
Yukata experience
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine
Orientation and graduation ceremony
The final schedule may change according to availability and local conditions.
Which trips are included?
The program includes organized trips to destinations in Kyushu and other parts of Japan:
Kumamoto
Yamaguchi
Osaka
Kyoto
The tentative schedule includes day trips during the first two weeks and a three-day trip during the final week. These excursions allow you to discover different cities and regions while traveling with the international camp group.
Where will I stay?
You may stay with a Japanese host family or request a place in the supervised residence. Both options include breakfast and dinner.
Japanese host family
Living with a Japanese host family allows you to experience daily routines, meals, and family life in Japan. It also gives you additional opportunities to hear and use Japanese outside the classroom.
Your host family will explain its household rules and help you adapt to daily life in Fukuoka. Students normally travel between the host family and the school by public transportation.
Supervised residence
A supervised residence may also be requested when you apply. Residence places are limited, and availability is expected to be confirmed around May 2027.
A residence request cannot be guaranteed. If the residence cannot be arranged, you will be placed with a Japanese host family.

What meals are included?
Both accommodation options include breakfast and dinner. Lunches provided during organized trips are also included.
Regular school-day lunches are not included.Students should budget for lunch and personal snacks.
Please tell your Nacel advisor about allergies or dietary restrictions before booking. Acceptance of specific dietary requirements must be confirmed individually.
What are the 2027 dates?
The Fukuoka program is offered as a fixed three-week package only.

There will be no classes on the public holidays.
You must apply for this program at least five months in advance. However, we highly recommend you apply as early as you can, as this camp has a limited number of spots available and sells out very fast!

You don’t need to speak Japanese to enroll in this program! This language camp is geared toward students at A0 to A1 levels.
The only requirement is that students must be able to read the Hiragana alphabet before arriving at school.

In general, we can accommodate most diets. However, if your diet is very strict, you may be advised to prepare your own meals. Please let us know about your dietary needs, allergies, medical diet before booking so we can confirm whether we can accept you into the program.
Students will be assigned to a family that best fits their needs and is located closest to the school. You will be asked to fill in a form with detailed questions to find the best matching family for you.
This arrangement will be finalized 3 weeks to 1 month prior to the start of classes.
All students are required to have travel insurance for the duration of their stay. The insurance must cover potential medical expenses as well as property damage liability. If you would like us to arrange travel insurance for you, please indicate this during the booking process ( an optional policy can be arranged for ¥250 per day).
