WORK CONDITIONS
The student must work a minimum of 35/40 hours per week and may be expected to work either 5 or 6 days per week. He/she will earn at least the UK minimum wage: for workers aged 22 and over, £5.73 an hour. The national minimum wage is an important cornerstone of Government strategy aimed at providing employees with decent minimum standards and fairness in the workplace. It applies to nearly all workers and sets hourly rates below which pay must not be allowed to fall. It helps business by ensuring companies will be able to compete on the basis of quality of the goods and services they provide and not on low prices based predominantly on low rates of pay. The rates set are based on the recommendations of the independent Low Pay Commission.

Deductions for accommodation, food, taxes, National Insurance and any other services supplied will be deducted from this gross wage. The timetable and conditions of employment are to be agreed upon at the time of interview between the employer and the employee. The wage offered remains at the entire discretion of the employer. If a dispute occurs on the work conditions, students should refer to the Nacel’s local representative in order to find an amicably solution for all parties involved.

lt is usual for an employee to receive their pay on a weekly basis but some employers chose to pay monthly.

AVAILABLE SECTORS
Paid jobs are offered in the hospitality sector (hotels, restaurants, activity centres, holiday parks). Available positions are: restaurant work, waiter, bartender, kitchen porter, housekeeping, receptionist, Commis Chef, general assistant or porter.

Although each of these options is open to all students, it is important to be realistic. Should the student have an intermediate level of English with little experience, the likelihood they will secure a position as a Receptionist is nonexistent! We ask that all students are flexible when it comes to the position we find for them. Many hotels will employ people as a General Assistant. This usually incorporates as little of everything from Housekeeping to Waiting.
