Our Homestay and School Integration in Italy program offers students the opportunity to experience the Italian way of life and allow them to discover the typical life of a young Italian teenager, by living with an Italian host family and going to a local Italian high school like any Italian student, during school year only. During the homestay in Italy, students will be welcomed by their Italian host families as if they were a member of the family and spend their evenings and weekends with their Italian host families. During the weekdays (between September and June), he/she will go to a local high school with a host sister or brother or a young from the Italian family.

Nacel’s homestay with an Italian host family provides a firsthand opportunity to understand the Italian culture and improve language communication skills. The Italian homestay program will improve the student’s knowledge of Italian culture and language through active participation in family, school and community life. The Italian homestay and school integration is a good way to test and prepare a student to apply for a longer academic program.

Students will improve their knowledge of the Italian culture and language through active participation in family, school and community life. The program gives students an opportunity to spend a certain period of time studying at an Italian high school and living with an Italian volunteer family. Some schools organize extra-curricular activities in the afternoon (sports, theatre etc.). The school year begins in the middle of September and ends by the middle of June.

SCHOOL SYSTEM
The scuola superiore (high school) welcomes students aged 14 to 19 years old. Italian students begin this school after having attended 5 years of scuola elementare (elementary school) and 3 years of scuola media (junior high school). The subjects offered depend on the type of school: Classical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Teacher Training, Artistic, Technical or Professional school. The designation of the grade the student will attend and the class schedule is at the discretion of the school in which the student is enrolled.

ACCOMMODATION :

Italian Host family, full board.

Italian host families are volunteers. This means they are not paid to host the student. They are generally really enthusiastic and offer a warm welcome to the student during his/her Italian homestay. They are also eager to make discover their way of life to the student, and will want to know about his/her life in his home country. So this program has two goals: help the student to improve his Italian skills and discover the Italian way of life, but also making the host family discover the student’s culture and country.

Italian host families welcome their exchange student for some weeks with the hope that the experience will lead to friendship. They look forward to sharing not only their language but also their everyday life with someone who is eager to participate. They will want to know many things about your country too!
We try as much as possible to match a student with a family who shares the same interests, so you can’t choose your location. Please note that the student has to adapt himself to the life of the family, not the contrary!
Please note that students must have their own pocket money to pay for the activities and outings (sports, cinema, restaurant…) with their host families.
The volunteer host family accommodates the student on a full board basis. We will place the student with a carefully selected Italian family or families for the duration of the program. We shall interview host families at their home to assure that they have the capacity and economic resources to properly host a teenage exchange student. The host family will provide accommodation, meals in the home and at the family’s option a packed lunch for school if lunch is not taken at home. All meals away from home (including school lunches) are to be paid for by the student.
Italian host families come from many social and economical backgrounds of life and may live in various locations (in a big town, in a small city, in a village or on a farm...). Wherever the student’s host family lives, there will be wonderful things to discover and absorb.  Students can be placed anywhere in the country and must accept any location. It is very important for us to match the students with the Italian host family, so this is what will determine the location of the student. Nacel's coordinators select the host families and are available to answer questions and handle any student/host family concerns during the program.

ELIGIBILITY :

Students must be interviewed in their home country before being accepted in the Italian homestay program in Italy.
A minimum of 2 years of Italian study and good academic results are required in order to be able to participate to the immersion in Italy.

CONDITIONS - ITALIAN HOMESTAY AND HIGH SCHOOL IN ITALY :

Between mid September and the end of May. The program can start anytime of the year.
