Summer Homestay Immersion in Spain : Description

Nacel's homestay immersion in Spain is an exciting way for international teenagers to experience life with a Spanish family for up to two months during the summer. Host families come from varied social and economical backgrounds and live in a variety of locations (in a big town, in a small city, in a village or on a farm...). Wherever the student’s host family lives, there are wonderful things to discover and absorb.

Students can be placed anywhere in Spain and must accept the placement that is offered. It is very important for us to match the students with the host family, and this is what determines the student’s placement.

Nacel's coordinators select the host families and are available to answer questions and handle any student/host family concerns during the program. Our host families are interested in sharing the daily life with their guests from abroad. They offer students a great opportunity to immerse themselves in Spain and its culture.

Summer Homestay Immersion in Spain : Testimonials

Hi everybody. I would like to thank you for given Marine and Mélissandre the opportunity to spend a great stay in Cadiz. The set-up was just perfect and everything was alright. Unfortunately, I don’t speak a word of Spanish and that’s why I am not able to call Carmen and Paco, who kindly hosted our daughters. But I would be glad if you’d give them my warm thanks. I hope I’ll have the opportunity to organise another stay abroad with your organism. Kind regards, Shirley”

"The experience that my son Sterling (17) had while in Barcelona was an amazing and a very positive one. He was very impressed and felt at home with his host family. Not only did he come home with a better Spanish vocabulary , a sense of accomplishment, and a desire to experience more of the world, he came home with some great recipes.
This experience has allowed him the insight into another countries way of life. He is ready to go again and we will be making that happen this summer. We are in the process of lining him up a trip to London, and again to Barcelona. Our Sincere, Thanks, Joanna & Sterling, Melbourne, Florida, USA"

"I went to Barcelona in 1988 for 4 weeks through Nacel. I was so nervous about being away from home and speaking Spanish, but the program was so well organized and the people at Nacel placed me with the perfect family. I stayed in a beautiful summer home in Sitges and did a lot of sight seeing. I had a wonderful experience and I am now a Spanish teacher. I recommend Nacel to all my students."

I changed host family after three nights, because the members of my first family were smokers. Besides, I don't think I was placed in a FAMILY... because I went alone in the house with a single mother. However, I have met many people, and I have become friends for life, I would have only wanted to stay much longer!

"I really liked the family I was staying with; they were all very open and nice to me. However, I would have preferred that they take me out to do certain activities some of the time I was there, or do some sightseeing or something of the sort, because there were moments when I got bored during my stay. My bed was also not very comfortable, but I can live with that. All in all I had a lot of fun and I really liked the family."

“Thank you for your email. I can't even begin to explain how wonderful Kristi's experience has been. She had a wonderful host family who really went out of their way to show her their country and culture. She was able to meet most of their extended family, too. She is returning home this evening and she told me yesterday when I spoke to her that although she was so sad to be leaving her host family she is happy to be seeing us again. Thank you for all your help and assistance.”

“At the end of my 11th grade, in 1986, at my request, my parents registered me for the program "homestay immersion" in the USA. My first time outside my family circle and abroad! I found myself in Kentucky in Louisville in a charming and caring family and with 2 girls my age (Janet 17 and Michelle 19). Immediately we became friends and I was a member of the family! I was out of all the outings and I met all their high school friends. Despite the difficulties of languages ??encountered at the beginning, this stay was very rich in cultural, human and linguistic experiences. This first contact with the United States allowed me to make very nice meetings and to continue to go to the USA for 4 years in succession and even to make my internships in a company there. This reinforced my taste for learning the English language and a certain openness to the outside world. 30 years later and thanks to emails and Facebook now, I have kept in touch with this family and some friends! Thanks to Nacel for making me live this very beautiful experience. In the summer of 2018, I would like to bring this experience to my 16 year old daughter ...” Sylvie B from France

Thank you so much for coordinating Prasanna's homestay in Calpe with a wonderful family.  I think he had a very good time and learnt a lot, including improving his Spanish (!).  The coordinator in Calpe, Lorena, was a big help and support, as well.  I feel like the quality and care of Nacel has remained at its high standard from the memorable stays that my family has experiences a generation ago.

"Our daughter wanted to practice her Spanish language skills outside of the classroom and she definitely got this as part of her homestay in Spain organized by NACEL.  The host family was very nice and the fact that the family did not speak English gave our daughter an excellent opportunity to extend her vocabulary and discuss impromptu real-time topics in Spanish -- skills that the classroom cannot provide." -Mother of Nisha
