Live in a German family! The Nacel homestay program offers teenagers opportunities to experience the everyday life of a host family in Germany. This immersion program in Germany proudly represents the foundation of all Nacel language programs, offering the chance for a young person from abroad to improve his/her level of German. Language improvement comes from the constant immersion in a family. The friendship which results from living as a member of a family encourages continued international communication and understanding.

Please note that in Germany, the participant of the German homestay program will attend a local German high school during the program, with the host sister or brother or other children of the neighborhood.

ACTIVITIES :

The new family member is expected to take part in the daily activities of his or her German host family. Integration into the family is the ultimate goal of the German homestay experience. However host families are not required to organize activities, visits or excursions. The participant comes with its own spending money to cover the costs of activities during the immersion.

ELIGIBILITY :

A minimum of one to two year of German language study is requested.

Participants must show that they are mature enough to participate in the German Homestay program that requires:
-Interest in learning about the German culture
-Deep desire to integrate a different family and share actively their everyday life
-Enthusiasm for improving language communication skills
-Willingness to make new friends
-An open and flexible attitude during the homestay in Germany

ACCOMMODATION :

The student is hosted on a full board basis by a German host family.

German host families are volunteer. This means they are not paid to host the student. They are generally really enthusiastic and offer a warm welcome to the student during his/her homstay program in Germany . They are also eager to make discover their way of life to the student during his/her German immersion , and will want to know about his/her life in his home country.
German host families welcome their exchange student for some weeks with the hope that the experience will lead to friendship. They look forward to sharing not only their language but also their everyday life with someone who is eager to participate. We try as much as possible to match a student with a family who shares the same interests, so you can’t choose your location.

Host families come from many social and economical backgrounds of life and may live in various locations (in a big town, in a small city, in a village or on a farm...). Wherever the student’s host family lives, there will be wonderful things to discover and absorb. Students can be placed anywhere in the country and must accept any location. It is very important for us to match the students with the host family, so this is what will determine the location of the student. Nacel's coordinators select the host families and are available to answer questions and handle any student/host family concerns during the program.

Please note that participants cannot choose a specific area in Germany. Nacel International reserves the possibility to place the student anywhere in the hosting country. The location will mostly depend on the dates chosen.
