Paid job in England DESCRIPTION :
The paid Work and Study program in England is an ideal opportunity for international students to upgrade their English language skills not only in a class-room situation but also in an everyday job environment. The program offers 4 weeks language course, which takes place in a language school in Brighton/Hove and leads to the Cambridge Certificate in Work Experience or the Advanced Certificate in Work Experience. The student is then placed anywhere in the UK, depending on paid jobs availability, to carry out a paid work experience. This ‘Study and Work’ format is known as a “sandwich course” and is recognised by British Embassies for visa purposes.
JOB PLACEMENT:
Paid jobs are offered in England in the service industry, hotels, restaurants, pubs, big and small cafés, holiday camps and activity centres. Available positions are: waiter/waitress, bar staff, front of house porters, commis chef, kitchen porters, kitchen assistant, housekeepers, front of house reception and general hotel duties.
WORK CONDITIONS:
The student must work a minimum of 30 or 40 hours per week and may be expected to work either 5 or 6 days per week. He/she will earn at least the UK minimum wage: for workers aged 22 and over, £5.35 an hour. Deductions for accommodation, food, taxes, National Insurance and any other services supplied will be deducted from this gross wage. The timetable and conditions of employment is to be agreed upon at the time of interview between the employer and the employee.
ACCOMMODATION :
Host family, half board during the 4 weeks language course; accommodation and board provided by the employer during the work placement in England; the cost may be deducted from the wage.

EU and non-EU students.
No visa required for EU students. Student Visa for non-EU students.
Students from other countries.
DEADLINE :
At least 3 months before arrival in England. Late application may be accepted.

CONDITIONS - PAID JOB IN ENGLAND :
Applicants to a paid job in England need to have:
- at least an intermediate level of English on arrival
- some work experience in the hotel, hospitality or customer service sector.
