DESCRIPTION :


This 6 or 12 month-program allows students from any citizenship to work and study in Canada. Students will first have 6 or 12 weeks of language study and then a work placement in the hospitality sector. During their paid job placement, students have English evening classes.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Working and travelling in a country is often considered the best way to gain firsthand experience of a culture and its people. Our Work and Study Program in Canada will give you options and exposure to experiences the average tourist will never touch. Nacel international offers you a program which allows you to do a paid, supervised, practical training experience in hospitality at one of our representative’s partner-resorts in British Columbia and Alberta as part of an educational language & hospitality program. The goal is to practice your acquired skills in a hospitality setting and to give you an insight into the Canadian hospitality industry.

PAID JOBS:
Paid jobs are offered in the hospitality sector. Available positions are: banquets server, bartender, beach concession, bell person, café attendant / hostess, dining room server, front desk – customer service representative, golf course groundskeeper, guest services, golf course groundskeeper, health & fitness coordinator, house person/ room attendant, lift operator, line cook, maintenance/grounds operator, park attendant, retail sales consultants and rentalists, reservations agent, sales & special events coordinator, server / waiter / waitress or ticket sellers.

We will contact a number of host companies on your behalf and we guarantee one secure internship offer.

WORK CONDITIONS:
The student must work a minimum of 30 hours per week. The wage ranges from CAD$8 to CAN$14 per hour. The timetable and conditions of the job is to be agreed upon at the time of interview between the employer and the employee.

Not included in the price.

We generally recommend our students to apply for homestay accommodation; we do not provide other accommodation services. If the hostel accommodation is chosen, the student would have to book and find prices of the hostel by him/herself.

Full board in a host family:
- 3 meals per day

ACTIVITIES :


SCHEDULE
This schedule is the typical schedule of a 6-month program:

1) Vancouver Campus (6 weeks sample)
-English Language Training/ Cultural Training – 180 hours
-Hospitality Specific Training – 60 hours
The First Day of Class starts at 9am on Monday and finishes at 3pm. Students will have an orientation meeting with their Job Placement Coordinator after class.
Orientation Meeting – 3:15 pm
-Review the Placement Process
-Prepare documents to Apply for Social Insurance Number
-Students should bring their Resume and Cover Letter
-Question and Answer time for General Questions

2) Resort Location
-Evening Language Courses/ Hospitality Workshops – 160 hours
-18 weeks to complete Paid Hospitality Internship
For a 12 months placement, there are 12 weeks on the Vancouver campus (480 hours) and then 320 hours courses during the work placement. Upon successful completion of the academic and practical components, students will receive a certificate of participation and a reference letter on company letterhead.
-For the first weeks of their stay in Vancouver (6 weeks), students take their English classes and intercultural training at the Language School from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
-Once at the resort location, students will take 8 - 10 hours (average) per week of English classes (it basically creates a connection between the resort location and their classes in Vancouver, plus students have the advantage of having a teacher on location) after their work. Usually classes take place at the resort; we will provide each student with a schedule of their classes at the resort.




ELIGIBILITY :


Minimum age: 19 years (legal age in British Columbia, Canada)
Maximum age: 35 years
You should be a graduate or undergraduate student from a recognized university/college/university of applied sciences and/or have completed an apprenticeship program in your home country.

Computer Skills: You should be familiar with most MS Office applications and be familiar with doing research projects on the internet. For some positions, special computer skills may be required.

Language Skills: You should be able to competently speak, read and understand conversational English and able to function in business setting. Upper intermediate to advanced English skills are required to start the work experience portion of your Work and Study Program.

Other Skills: You should be mature, independent and flexible and have some understanding of cultural differences.

No hospitality experience is necessary, just a desire to improve the English skills and experience North American Culture.
