Live in a German host family! The German homestay program in Germany offers teenagers opportunities to experience the everyday life of a German host family in Germany. This immersion program in Germany proudly represents the foundation of all Nacel language programs, offering the chance for a young person from abroad to improve his/her level of German. Language improvement comes from the constant immersion in a German family. The friendship which results from living as a member of a German family encourages continued international communication and understanding.

HOME SCHOOLING OPTION
Nacel's Home Schooling option is an exciting program for summer students and their German host families. It offers a chance for students to learn the German language with a member of their German host family on a structured one-on-one basis. It also provides a context for communication, language activities, and cultural sharing which will foster continued understanding and closeness.

A member of the German family will tutor the student for a total of 5 hours per week. The tutoring is geared towards improvement of the conversational language, with an emphasis on the local lifestyle and culture. Writing, reading and listening activities should be included to round out the student's learning. The home tutor should be a member of the family who is either a teacher or has a degree in higher education and has had experience in home schooling. Tutoring time is "set apart" from daily activities and focused on the student's advancement in the language. Nacel provides each home tutor with materials, including a workbook and general guidelines of the program and examples of how to help format tutoring lessons.
This German language program is mainly intended for students who have the very basic skills of the studied language.

ACCOMMODATION :

The student is hosted on a full board basis by a German host family.

German host families are volunteer. This means they are not paid to host the student. They are generally really enthusiastic and offer a warm welcome to the student. The German host family is also eager to make discover their way of life to the student during the immersion in Germany, and will want to know about his/her life in his home country.
German host families welcome their exchange student for some weeks during the German homestay program in Germany with the hope that the experience will lead to friendship. They look forward to sharing not only their language but also their everyday life with someone who is eager to participate. We try as much as possible to match a student with a family who shares the same interests, so you can’t choose your location.

German host families come from many social and economical backgrounds of life and may live in various locations in Germany (in a big town, in a small city, in a village or on a farm...). Wherever the student’s host family lives, there will be wonderful things to discover and absorb. Students can be placed anywhere in the country and must accept any location. It is very important for us to match the students with the German host family, so this is what will determine the location of the student. Nacel's coordinators select the host families and are available to answer questions and handle any student/host family concerns during the program.

Please note that participants cannot choose a specific area in Germany. Nacel International reserves the possibility to place the student anywhere in the hosting country.

ACTIVITIES :

The new family member is expected to take part in the daily activities of his or her German host family. Integration into the family is the ultimate goal of the homestay experience. However German host families are not required to organize activities, visits or excursions. The participant comes with its own spending money to cover the costs of activities.

ELIGIBILITY :

A minimum of one to two year of German language study
Participants must show that they are mature enough to participate in the German homestay program in Germany, that requires:
-Interest in learning about the German culture and language
-Deep desire to integrate a different family and share actively their everyday life
-Enthusiasm for improving language communication skills
-Willingness to make new friends
-An open and flexible attitude during their homestay in Germany

2 months before arrival in the German host family.
