The St Paul American School in Beijing, China, introduces an exciting opportunity to learn the Chinese language and culture with the Nacel International School System’s newest branch school. Classes and activities offer students an intercultural setting, with students from all over the world.

In addition to traditional language and culture courses, students will be provided with the opportunity to further immerse into the Chinese culture through activities, such as sightseeing and learning Chinese arts and crafts. Saint Paul American School is located on a campus in Beijing, China.

The American High School offers small classes, led by highly qualified Chinese and American teachers. Classes and activities offer students an intercultural setting, with students from all over the world. The Beijing Normal University affiliated No.2 School is the most prestigious school in China. The school was established in 1953 as a model secondary school in Beijing to have over 50 years of history. It is the first school which started international exchanges in China. 100% graduates go to University.

Educative mission
The St Paul American School is a private American high school in China (grades 9-12) and includes local as well as foreign students. We have 12 American teachers, 1 American principal managing the school and 8 English speaking office/dormitory staff members. Students will not only receive a US curriculum leading to a diploma from the St Paul Preparatory School, but will also be provided with courses in Chinese language, culture and history so that they will be conversant in 2 cultures – the Chinese and the American one. The dual diploma offers your student a unique opportunity to take advantage of learning in the American school system and discover the Chinese language, culture and history.

Students body
Currently, the school hosts 126 students from which 100 Korean students and 26 non-Korean students (Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Tonga, Canadian, Filipino, Mongolian, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbian, etc...).

Beijing is the nation's political, economic, cultural and educational center as well as China's most important center for international trade and communications. Together with Xian, Luoyang, Kaifeng, Nanjing and Hangzhou, Beijing is one of the six ancient cities in China. It has been the heart and soul of politics and society throughout its long history and consequently there is an unparalleled wealth of discovery to delight and intrigue travelers as they explore Beijing's ancient past and enjoy its exciting modern development. As the capital of the People's Republic of China, Beijing is located in northern China, close to Tianjin Municipality and partially surrounded by Hebei Province. The city covers an area of more than 16,410 square kilometers (6336 square miles) and has a population of 14.93 million people.

Type of school
Private. Students are required to wear school uniform. The school is located in the Olympic Village. It’s a boarding school with a new brand library, Olympic size gym, swimming pool, cafeteria and other excellent facilities on campus. It will provide students with a clean and safe campus life.

A week at St Paul American School
From Monday to Friday, classes start at 8:30am. There are 6 hours of US curriculum classes and 1 hour of resource (or activity) until 4:30pm. After dinner, there is a 2 hours Chinese course and Chine curriculum (mostly language training; for higher Chinese level students, culture and history classes are available). On Saturdays, there are 6 hours of Chinese language, culture, history and art classes. On Sundays, the students can go to an international church or can go to a downtown tour. The school provides buses and chaperones. Every second Sunday after the mass students are given some free time by their supervisors (usually 3 hours) which they can use for shopping, going to international restaurants for lunch etc. On the way back to school students are given one more hour to shop in a shopping centre.

Local coordinator
As for now we have 8 dormitory supervisors include 1 American teacher, who speak Chinese, Korean and English. Their main task is to take care of students and supervise so they do not break the dormitory rules. Inside of campus, we have Beijing No.2 school security guards who are patrolling, checking strangers, and guarding the gate. In addition, our own Saint Paul American School staff members also check our student’s safety all the time. From Monday to Friday from 11.40 am to 12.00 there is advisory time. Students are divided into small groups and meet with their advisor to discuss their personal problems and issues. The school nurse stays in the dormitory and is available 24hours a day.

Extra activities
From Monday to Thursday, 3.00-4.00 p.m. students take part in extra activities our school offers. Every 9 weeks activities on offer change (1st and 4th 9 weeks students can choose from many sport activities while during 2nd and 3rd 9 weeks there will be mostly indoor activities on offer).
The school has a music band, dance club and yearbook.

Dormitory, full board (2 to 3 students per room).
Dormitory buildings are located within the school campus. There are two separate buildings – boys dorm and girls dorm. Students have Internet access in their dormitory room. Laundry machines available for use. Meals are available in the campus cafeteria. Chinese/Korean/Western cuisine – students use chargeable meal card to obtain their meals.

Curricular goals
The program is aimed to:
- Prepare students to work within an American educational environment and enter an American course of study.
- Acclimate students to the teaching methods and practices of American instructors.
- Practice English skills within academic content areas in preparation for immersion in the American curriculum.
- Acquire knowledge in Chinese studies including the academic content areas by learning Chinese-grammar, art
and culture.

Course offerings
The US High School Curriculum is taught by American teachers. The special Chinese Curriculum is provided by the
Chinese sister school. All courses are two semesters, except where noted. The academic needs and abilities of each
student will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Teachers will prepare special topics to provide students with in depth case studies relating to Chinese foreign relations; economic development; historical events; social issues; language development; archeology; paleontology and special cultural events.

Electives
Students will have a choice of US curriculum courses offered at specific time slots. These course may include world history, U.S. history, science, Math, foreign language or enrichments.

Graduation
When they graduate, students will get diploma of our school as well as from the US head school, the Nacel International School (located in Minnesota) and the Diploma of the Chinese school (Beijing Normal University's No. 2 School). Successful graduates will earn the High School Diploma which is accredited by the US North Central Committee of Accreditation (NCA).




ELIGIBILITY :


Students must be interviewed in their home country before being accepted.
A minimum of 2 years of English study (SLEP test score 45 or higher) and good academic results are required.
Students will low English level will be provided with ESL courses.
All the new students are to be interviewed at the beginning of the semester and will be placed in their appropriate level of classes and grade.
There is no need for Chinese language background. For China and Chinese subjects, our goal is for our students to achieve HSK Chinese proficiency test level 6 or above. The Chinese classes will start from the beginner’s level.
